Delhi’s DTC to get 8,000 e-buses by 2025: Arvind Kejriwal – Times of India

Delhi’s chief minister Arvind Kejriwal with the Minister of Transport Ashok GehlotFlagged off a fleet of 97 new electric buses for service under Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC). The flag hoisting ceremony was held at Rajghat depot in the capital. In the function, CM Kejriwal also expressed the goal of giving Delhi the largest fleet of e-buses in the country. He said that by 2025, 80 percent of the more than 10,000 buses plying on Delhi’s roads will be all electric.

Speaking to the crowd at the flag off, Kejriwal said, “Orders have already been placed for 1,500 buses to be inducted into Delhi’s fleet by December 2022. At present, 153 e-buses are running in Delhi, which has increased till now. 250 with these 97 new buses. Fifty more e-buses will be added by September 2022. Around 1,800 e-buses are expected to ply on Delhi roads by November 2023.

The new e-buses have been supplied by Tata Motors to DTC, who have placed an order for a total of 1,500 electric buses from the corporation. As per reports, Tata Motors has outstanding orders for 921 e-buses from Bengaluru Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BTMC) and 1,180 e-buses from West Bengal Transport Corporation (WBTC).

Kejriwal also informed the public that the government is planning to develop charging facilities in 55 depots by 2023. “Just as we have made Delhi a world-class model in terms of education and health, the city will also be made a transport model in the world. ” He said.
