A Plot In Gomtinagar Extension Ideal For Mosquito Breeding
Lucknow: Cases of dengue are also being reported in the district on Thursday. At least 20 residents of Aliganj, Turiaganj, Alambagh, NK Road and Indiranagar were diagnosed with the vector-borne disease after confirmatory ELISA tests.
These areas are part of 15 hotspots from where about 20 cases are being reported every day for the last seven days. In fact, 90% (248) of the 275 cases reported in November are from these hotspots.
Five of the patients were hospitalized after platelets dropped below 25,000, while others were recovering at home. With this, the dengue caseload has gone up to 1,488 since January and 1,397 since September.
Health department officials were expecting that the number of cases would come down in November but dengue cases are being reported daily with an average of 16 cases.
“We expected the maximum temperature to fall below 26 degrees Celsius and as a result, the average daily cases would come down. However, so far, there has been no significant drop in the maximum temperature,” said a senior health department official.
He said that people should be alert and avoid stagnation of water in and around houses when the temperature drops.
Meanwhile, in its ongoing drive for Zika virus control, the health department team took blood samples of 94 people at Kanpur Road, Safdarabad, NK Road, Alambagh, LDA Colony and Azadnagar, to test for Zika symptoms.
In addition, 106 people tested negative for Zika. Their samples were taken after two people tested positive for the virus on Wednesday.
Chief Medical Officer Dr Manoj Aggarwal said, “Our team is visiting every house in the vicinity of Zika patients.”
