Any controversy over their name and contribution in the freedom struggle is “undesirable”, he said, adding that these martyrs had laid down their lives for the country’s freedom and no one has any right to question their role in the freedom movement.

Bhagwant Mann alleged, “When Bhagat Singh, Udham Singh and others were fighting for the country, what good can be expected of Punjab from these people who joined hands with the British.”
Paying tributes to the martyr Udham Singh, the Chief Minister said, “The true son of this earth had displayed exemplary courage in a valiant act by killing Michael O’Dwyer, the prime criminal of the 1999 Jallianwala Bagh massacre.”
He also remembered the unparalleled sacrifice made by great martyrs like Shaheed Bhagat Singh, Shaheed Udham Singh, Sukhdev, Rajguru, Shaheed Kartar Singh Sarabha and others during the Indian independence movement.
Bhagwant Mann said that whenever he used to go to London as an artist, he used to go to Caxton Hall where Shaheed Udham Singh had avenged the Jallianwala Bagh massacre.
The Chief Minister said, “This hall is very important for all of us as it reminds us of the heroic deeds of the martyr. Every effort will be made to bring back the belongings of all the martyrs to India.”
