Description of Tuluva history through Yakshagana, Padana, Ajji Katha

Speaking after releasing the book written by Sri Gowda, former Vice-Chancellor of Karnataka Folkgit University and published by St. Aloysius Publications, Mr. Rai said that Mr. Gowda has done extensive research on paddana and other oral literary forms which is showing a new approach. Shri Rai said that the author has considered in detail the paddans (song tales) to narrate the stories related to the gods named ‘Kalakuda Kallurthi’, ‘Korga Taniya’, ‘Billaray Ballarti’ and ‘Panjuri’.

“They have brought to the fore class discrimination, oppression and other injustices by the wealthy class and the way these oppressed people have fought and there are no broad statements,” Mr Rai said. The author has come out with this purely by explaining about the paddana.” He said that through this book the author has presented the mix of cultures of the coastal region.

Shri Rai asked Sant Aloysius Publications to bring this book in the form of e-book so that it can be made available for wider audience.

Talatje Vasanthakumar, a former Kannada professor at the University of Mumbai, said that Sri Gowda’s unique quality in the presentation of oral Tulu literary forms was his ability not to impose his own leanings in his narration. He has shown how Yakshagana has evolved and presented the current state of this popular art form.
