Chandrapur: Forest guard in first of its kind incident – Swati fumigation – I was killed after a tiger attack kolaras range, core zone Tadoba Andhari tiger reserve (TATR) on Saturday. Sources said Maya (T-12), the most popular Lioness Tadoba was responsible for the attack. Dhumane was walking along with three laborers for the All India Tiger Estimation (AITE) 2022 exercise when the incident happened.
There have been cases of non-vegetarians attacking forest dwellers in the line of duty, but all were injured. Following Saturday’s incident, Tadoba area director Jitendra Ramgaonkar has suspended the movement of tourists along with counting exercises in gypsies in the area.
According to Ramgaonkar, Dhumane and the team started walking around 7 am. After 4 km he saw that Maya was sitting on the road about 200 meters ahead of him. The team waited for about 30 minutes and when the tigress did not move, they decided to roam in the forest. After this the tigress attacked Dhumane and dragged her to the forest. On receiving the information, senior forest department officials reached and traced the dead body. Later it was taken to the government hospital in Chimur for postmortem. Maya’s sudden aggressive behavior stuns those who have followed her life.
