Santosh Patil, a contractor from Belagavi, was found dead at a hotel in Udupi on Tuesday, weeks after Mr Eshwarappa was accused of corruption.

In an alleged suicide note in the form of a WhatsApp message, Mr. Patil had held Mr. Eshwarappa responsible for his death.

Based on a complaint by Mr. Patil’s relative, the Udupi city police have booked Mr. Eshwarappa for abetment to suicide.

In the FIR, Mr. Eshwarappa, his associates Basavaraj and Ramesh are listed as A1 (accused No. 1), A2 and A3 respectively.

Prashant Patil also demanded payment of bills for development works done by his brother, compensation to his widow and government job.

Santosh Patil had last month complained to Union Rural Development Minister Giriraj Singh that he was yet to be paid Rs 4 crore for the road works carried out in Hindalga village, and demanded commission for payment on Mr. Eshwarappa’s associates. was accused of doing.
