Dinesh Karthik praises Mushfiqur Rahim for completing 5000 test runs – what he has achieved is amazing

Veteran Indian cricketer Dinesh Karthik heaped praise on Mushfiqur Rahim of Bangladesh, later becoming the first player from his country to score 5000 runs in Test cricket. The Bogra-born cricketer achieved the feat during the Tigers’ ongoing Test match against Sri Lanka at the Zahoor Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chattogram.

Earlier, Tamim Iqbal was also in the race to reach 5000 runs before Mushfiqur, but he fell 19 runs behind the milestone. Mushfiqur scored 105 off 282 balls with four fours before Lasith Embuldeniya took his wicket.

Karthik, who is currently playing for Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the Indian Premier League (IPL), lauded Rahim for being the flag-bearer of Bangladesh cricket over the years.

“A lot of youngsters try to emulate him in that part of the world and really enjoy him as a player. He has been very consistent and has scored in Bangladesh and outside Bangladesh as well. “

“He has led the country for a long time and he has a lot of credentials to be in good shape over time, so I think he can be very proud of himself,” Karthik said.

Bangladesh took a crucial 68-run lead after the end of the first innings on the back of Rahim’s century. So far in 81 Tests, the 34-year-old has scored 5037 runs at an average of 36.50 with eight centuries and 25 half-centuries.
