Director Ritesh Rana discusses the real world he created for his new Telugu comedy ‘Happy Birthday’ and its link to his debut project ‘Mathu Vadalara’.
Writer and director Ritesh Rana considers his first Telugu film, the crime comedy of 2019 Mathu Wadalar, his calling card. He hopes that his second film happy B-DayWhat he describes as a true crime comedy thriller will help cement his position in Telugu cinema: “I want to tell a variety of stories and create an audience that looks forward to my films. ” happy B-Day Lavanya Tripathi as Happy and is accompanied by Naresh Agastya, Satya and Venela Kishore.
Riteish grew up watching Chiranjeevi’s movies in Hyderabad as his family members have been huge fans of the star. Mathu Vadlar Chiranjeevi was a handful in terms of hits. Later, he became fascinated by director Chandrashekhar Yeleti’s crime drama athe: “I saw the film during my class 10th vacation and was in awe. Yeleti was an inspiration for me to enter cinema. Coincidentally, Cheri, which produced Yeleti Okkadunnadu, One of the producers of my films (as part of Mathery Movie Makers).”
An avid film buff, Ritesh used to share his thoughts on cinema on IMDB discussion boards. After graduating with a B.Com (Hons), she took an animation course and a distance learning program in MA Mass Communication from Sikkim Manipal University: “The animation course also introduced me to editing; I made a short film under Project Work. It helped me learn the basics of filmmaking.”

Riteish gives little importance to any such big comparison and says that it is a small film. Both movies use different guns in different contexts.
To market an imaginary gun happy B-Day, the production team ordered several guns: “We needed 300 to 400 guns and kg of bullets. We procured guns after taking permission from people who rent weapons for the shooting of the film. Just like there are many brands and variants of mobile phones, there is no dearth of guns. We have got exclusive guns in gold, silver and diamond studded colours,” says Ritesh. A glimpse of Candy Pink Gun is also shown in the trailer.

Many associates of Ritesh Mathu Vadlar are also part of happy B-Day – Like music composer Kala Bhairav, co-writer Teja, actors Satya, Venela Kishore and Naresh Agastya. For the part of a politician who talks about legalizing gun culture, Riteish felt that Venela Kishore could pull off “respectable comedy” and says he is also a fan of Satya’s comic timing. Lavanya Tripathi was seen in a television interview, making her comedic side shine: “Most of the films she has acted in have not explored her funny side,” says Riteish.
To complement the wacky story, the production team created 13 quirky and colour-coded sets. Ritesh is a fan of production design in Wes Anderson films and says the team tried something new: “Part of the story takes place in a hotel and some parts are on the streets. The story is non-linear, narrated as chapters and requires different color schemes for the different sections. ,
Asked if the story explores the aftermath of the legalization of gun culture in the real world, Ritesh said: “Everything I say tells a lot about the story. All I can say is that The humorous content will make the audience laugh for the most part of the film.”
