Discussion on Karnataka cabinet reshuffle next week: CM

Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai met BJP President JP Nadda in Delhi on Wednesday

New Delhi:

Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai today said he had an extensive discussion with BJP national president JP Nadda on the issue of his cabinet reshuffle and further discussions will take place next week.

Speaking to reporters before leaving for Bengaluru, Mr Bommai said he held a meeting with Mr Nadda on Wednesday on the matter.

He said, “I discussed the cabinet expansion extensively. Top party officials have got all the information. Nadda ji has said that further discussions will be held during his visit to Karnataka for the party’s state executive committee meeting.” “

Bommai said that after deliberating on the issue in the party’s state executive committee meeting to be held on April 16-17, the party chief will take a final decision after consulting senior leaders and BJP’s national general secretary, Mr. Bommai.

“Nadda ji also asked me to make complete preparations for the state executive committee meeting and discuss the preparation to face the next assembly elections,” the chief minister said.

Mr Bommai was in the national capital on a two-day visit to meet Union ministers and party leaders.

After the recent assembly elections in five states, there is increasing pressure on the Chief Minister to expand or reshuffle his cabinet.

Some legislators are also advocating for a Gujarat-like change in the Karnataka cabinet to make way for new faces ahead of next year’s assembly elections.

The state cabinet currently has 30 ministers, including the chief minister, while the sanctioned strength is 34.

Amit Shah, who recently visited the state, had set BJP leaders in Karnataka a target to ensure the party’s victory in 150 seats out of the total 224 in the 2023 assembly elections. BJP is eyeing the second consecutive term in the state.
