Displaced Kashmiri Pandits will soon be able to return to the Valley: RSS chief

Kashmiri Pandits will soon be able to return to the Valley, RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat said on Sunday, adding that work is being done to create a conducive environment so that they are never displaced again. Virtually addressing Kashmiri Pandits on the last day of the three-day Navreh celebrations, he said that anyone who perpetuates the malafide intention to re-draw the community from Kashmir will have to face dire consequences.

He also praised the film The Kashmir Files, saying it has created public awareness across the country and outside about the reality behind the exodus of Kashmiri Pandits from the Valley in 1990. The Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) chief said that the time has come. Kashmiri Pandits will fulfill their resolve to return to their homes in the Kashmir Valley.

He said that the time for your return to the valley as a Hindu and a devotee of Bharat is drawing near, you have faced displacement in the past, but nothing like this should happen to you in the future. “Work is underway to create an environment where you will feel as safe and at peace with your neighbors as before and no one will be able to take you away from there again.

Anyone who perpetuates such an evil motive will face bitter consequences. There are people (among the Muslim community) with whom you used to enjoy good relations. He said that we have to defeat extremism and live in peace with all. Referring to his participation in the Kashmiri Pandit festival Herath (Shivratri) in Delhi in 2011, he said that the community had made a pledge on the occasion that they would return to their homeland.

It will not take long for our resolve to be fulfilled. This will come true very soon and we will have to continue our efforts in this direction. Our history and our great leaders should serve as a guiding light and inspiration for all of us, Bhagwat said in his half-hour speech. He said the removal of Article 370 opened the way for the return of Pandits to the Kashmir Valley.

Challenges come in everyone’s life… We are in a situation where three-four decades ago we were displaced in our own country. What is the solution? They said and said, we will not bow down and return to our homes and see our promise fulfilled. He referred to Israel and said that the Jews fought for their homeland for 1800 years. Not much was done by him to his vow in the 1700 years, but in the last 100 years, the history of Israel has seen it achieve its goal and become one of the leading countries in the world.

Despite Kashmir being an integral part of India, we (Kashmiri Pandits) have had to live in different parts of the world. We can live anywhere but we cannot forget our motherland. Bhagwat said that though it is taking some time, Kashmiri Pandits will return to their homeland on their own terms.
