October is filled with lots of festivities which means holidays in schools and colleges. The most important occasion in Hinduism is Diwali, the festival of lights.
Diwali is near and various states of the country have declared holiday on the festival. Diwali this year is falling on 24th October, which is a Monday. Educational institutions usually declare a holiday of three to four days for the festival.

Telangana
The Telangana government has now announced that this year the state holiday for Diwali will be on Monday, October 24, instead of the originally scheduled date of October 25, Tuesday. This means that educational institutions across the state will also observe Diwali holiday on Monday and remain closed. Requests have been received from students and parents to change the holidays government. In place of holidays on Monday, Sunday and Monday, there will be a holiday for the students for two consecutive days.
Tamil Nadu
Like last year, this time also there has been a demand from parents and students that all schools/colleges in Tamil Nadu should be given a holiday on Tuesday, the next day of Diwali with a holiday on Monday. People visit their hometowns to celebrate this festival and with Saturday, Sunday and Monday being three consecutive days off, the number of visitors to their hometowns is expected to increase this year. However, since the day after Diwali is a working day, it will be difficult for people to return from their hometowns. Therefore the Tamil Nadu government has also declared a holiday on 25 October.

West Bengal
According to the NI Act (Negotiable Instruments Act, 1881), state government employees will get a total of 18 holidays this year. While they used to get 11 consecutive days off during Durga Puja, no holiday was specified for Diwali. However, students of West Bengal will get a holiday on Kali Puja, which is falling on the same day as Diwali. Therefore, students will get a long weekend from Saturday to Monday to celebrate.
New York will also have Diwali holidays
New York City will have a public school holiday on Diwali from 2023.
