DMK holds protests across central region over delay in MGNREGS funds

The DMK staged widespread protests across the central districts of Tamil Nadu on Saturday, demanding the immediate release of ₹4,034 crore in pending dues under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS).

In Tiruchi, DMK cadres staged protest demonstrations at 60 places across the district. The protesters raised slogans against the Centre and called for the immediate release of the funds. A big gathering was held in Mannachanallur, where Perambalur MP K.N. Arun Nehru and local MLA Kathiravan led the protest. Other DMK legislators, including S. Thiyagarajan, Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi, and Thuraiyur MLA Stalin Kumar, took part in demonstrations across the district.

In Karur, protests were held in 42 places. Kulithalai MLA R. Manickam participated in a demonstration at Lalapettai, while Aravakurichi MLA R. Elango joined the protest in Thennilai.

In Perambalur, demonstrations were held at seven locations. In Ariyalur, Transport Minister S.S. Sivasankar joined protesters at Sendurai bus stand, while MLA K. So. K. Kannan participated at Tha. Palur Market Street. A total of 22 protests were staged across the district.

In Thanjavur, protests took place in 44 places. MLA T.K.G. Neelamegam took part in the demonstration near the Punnainallur Mariamman Temple.

In Tiruvarur, protests were held at 37 places. District Secretary Poondi Kalaivanan led the demonstration at Ammaiappan Shopping Street, voicing strong opposition to the delay in fund allocation.

In Pudukkottai, the DMK staged protests at 28 locations. State Law Minister S. Regupathy participated in the protest at Thirumayam, while Backward Classes Welfare Minister Siva V. Meyyanathan participated in the protest in Kurumbur near Aranthangi.

In Mayiladuthurai, protests took place at 12 sites. Congress MLA Rajkumar took part in the protest at Nedur Post Office, while DMK MLA M. Panneerselvam participated in a demonstration in Sirkazhi.

In Nagapattinam, protests were organised at 24 locations. At Thirumarugal, N. Gowthaman, District Secretary and Chairman of the Tamil Nadu Fisheries Development Corporation (TNFDC), addressed the protesters.
