Happy Karva Chauth 2022: Karva Chauth is an important Hindu festival celebrated mostly by married women in the northern and western parts of India. They observe a one-day fast on Karva Chauth, where they cannot even take a sip of water until the moon rises in the evening. The purpose of fasting on this day is to seek blessings for the long life of the husband. Keeping ‘Nirjala’ fast throughout the day can put a lot of pressure on the body and deprive you of energy. Many women also get sick by observing this fast of Karva Chauth.
Certain foods can help you conserve your energy during Karva Chauth fasting. According to dieticians, if the right foods are consumed a day before the festival, one can save energy and feel good during the fast.
According to Kamini Sinha, a specialist dietician at Medanta Hospital, Gurugram, fasting on Karva Chauth can cause electrolyte imbalance in the body. Apart from this, some women may also face the problem of acidity. Lack of energy during fasting usually causes weakness and dizziness in many women.
Dieticians suggest that a day before Karva Chauth, women should avoid eating oily and spicy food the day before to avoid acidity. Such foods also increase the thirst of the person. Avoiding fried and spicy foods can help them complete the next day without any discomfort. It is advisable to consume easily digestible foods a day before fasting. Dal, roti, buttermilk, kheer, curd, rose milk and fruits can be consumed a day before Karva Chauth. However, women should avoid eating bananas the day before the Karva Chauth fast, suggests Sinha.
Karva Chauth begins with Sargi, a ritual that takes place from around 4:30 to 5:30. During this, women can consume fruits, curd, custard and buttermilk. They can also have some coconut water to control electrolyte imbalance, which can happen later in the day. Plus, it will help them stay hydrated.
