Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin on Wednesday called for unity among the vibrant global Tamil diaspora, urging them to ignore division. He invited them to come to Tamil Nadu with his children to show them the rich cultural heritage of Tamils which existed even 3,000 years ago.
In his virtual address during the ‘World Tamil Pravasi Day’ celebrations organized by the Department of Welfare and Rehabilitation of Non-Resident Tamils, Mr Stalin said: “Many of you may not have voting rights in Tamil Nadu. But, you have the right to call this government your government. So, last September, I made several announcements for the welfare of diaspora Tamils across the world.
Do not give importance to partition in Tamil Nadu even after going abroad. Stay together like brothers and sisters. Achievement in education, employment and industrial development. Just like a tall tree will never give up its roots, don’t leave Tamil Nadu, just like you have not abandoned Tamil. Come to Tamil Nadu and show your children Tamil Nadu,” he said.
If not for the COVID-19 pandemic, the World Tamil Pravasi Day would have been celebrated in a grand manner, he said and called upon them to show their children the cultural richness that existed in Keeladi and Adhichanallur 3,000 years ago.
Tamils, who once lived only in this land, have now spread to many countries, with greater numbers in 30 countries and lesser numbers in 60 other countries, he said. “This exodus has been going on for many years.
