“Doodh ka dudh… pani ka pani”: Amit Shah on Shinde’s ‘bow and arrow’ victory

Pune (Maharashtra) [India]Feb 18 (ANI): A day after the Election Commission allotted the party name “Shiv Sena” and symbol “bow and arrow” to the faction led by Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, who was on a tour on Saturday in Pune, said that the poll panel has established the fact that truth always prevails.

Speaking at an event, Shah said, “Yesterday the Election Commission made ‘milk of milk, and water of water’. The formula of ‘Satyamev Jayate’ became important yesterday. Shinde ji got the symbol of bow and arrow and the name of the party ‘Shiv Sena’.

The Union Home Minister said that India has seen a sea change in governance since 2014. He said that the period 2014-2022 would be written in golden letters in the history of India.

Attacking the previous Congress government, Shah said, “During the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government, every minister considered himself as the prime minister and no minister considered the prime minister as the prime minister.” There was policy paralysis.

Shah said that the policy of zero tolerance against terrorism was first made in Gujarat.

“Infiltrators and terrorists from Pakistan used to come and behead our jawans and insult their severed heads. Silence used to spread on the ‘Darbar’ in Delhi. 12 lakh crore scams and corruption came to the fore one after the other in front of the country. Women were not safe, the borders of the country were not safe.

Shah further attacked the Congress government, saying, “The Prime Minister was not respected abroad and the respect for the country was the least. When the PM went abroad, he used to read speeches written for him – sometimes in Singapore he would read Thailand’s speech and vice versa. The country had to face humiliation.”

Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, who was present at the event, termed the tenure of the Uddhav Thackeray-led Maha Vikas Aghadi government in the state as ‘waste’.

“2.5 years was a waste. Now we have 2.5 years left and we have a lot of work to do. Fadnavis said, our ‘double horsepower’ government will work with all its might under the leadership of PM Modi.

Targeting Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, Fadnavis said, ‘Rahul Gandhi went to Kashmir and hoisted the tricolor. He could not do this during Congress rule because it became possible only when Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah scrapped Article 370.

In a major blow to the Uddhav Thackeray faction of the Shiv Sena, the Election Commission of India (ECI) on Friday allotted the party name “Shiv Sena” and election symbol “bow and arrow” to the faction led by Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde.

Notably, both the Shiv Sena factions (Eknath Shinde and Uddhav Thackeray) have been fighting for the party’s bow and arrow symbol since Shinde’s (current Maharashtra Chief Minister) rebellion against Thackeray last year.

While the Shinde faction welcomed the decision to be recognized as the original Shiv Sena, the Uddhav Thackeray faction said they would approach the Supreme Court.

Uddhav Thackeray’s faction accused the Election Commission of haste and said the decision shows that “it works as a BJP agent”.

The commission, in its order, found that the present constitution of the Shiv Sena party is undemocratic and has been “perverted to undemocratically appoint persons of a circle as office-bearers without any election”. It added that such a party structure fails to inspire confidence.

Describing the poll panel’s decision as “murder of democracy”, Uddhav Thackeray said he would approach the Supreme Court against the decision.

Last month, both the factions led by Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and former Shiv Sena CM Uddhav Thackeray submitted their written statements to the Election Commission in support of their claims to control the party’s name and symbol.

ECI freezes Shiv Sena’s bow and arrow symbol and allots ‘two swords and shield symbol’ to Eknath Shinde faction of Shiv Sena and ‘flaming torch’ (torch) election symbol to Uddhav Thackeray faction For the by-election in the Andheri East assembly constituency in November last year. (ANI)
