DoT issues alert on mobile tower fraud, lists 5 important things to follow – Times of India

Telecom Deptt (DOT), Ministry of CommunicationsGovernment of India has issued a public advisory on frauds related to installation of mobile towers. The advisory states that it has come to the notice of DoT that some unscrupulous companies/agencies/individuals cheat the general public and extort money by promising them hefty monthly rent etc. mobile towers,
The notice further states that in this regard the general public is hereby informed that:

  • DoT/TRAI is not directly or indirectly involved in leasing/renting out premises for installation of mobile towers.

  • DoT/TRAI or its officials do not issue any “No Objection Certificate” for installation of mobile towers.

  • , updated list of telecom service provider (TSP) and infrastructure provider (IP-1), authorized to install mobile towers, is available on the website of DoT i.e. (https://dot.gov.in and https://dot.gov.in/infrastructure-provider).

  • The public is hereby cautioned that if any company/agency/person demands money for installation of mobile tower, they should be extra careful and check the creditworthiness of the company. The consortium of TSP and IP-1 has confirmed that their members do not ask for any money for installation of mobile towers.

  • If a person notices any such fraudulent activity, he can report the incident to the local police authorities. DoT’s local field units can also be contacted whose contact details are available on DoT’s website.
