DP World launches Mundra Port-Ahmedabad Inland Terminal double-stack cargo train service

New Delhi: Global logistics major DP World on Tuesday said it has started double-stack train services from Mundra port to its Ahmedabad inland terminal in Gujarat.

“The double-stack train service will further boost connectivity between two points and significantly reduce the overall logistics cost for cargo movement on the route, even with fewer rakes, lower haulage rates and less or zero port ground Rent (PGR) due. resulting in faster clearance of containers from the port, the company said in a statement.

The train was flagged off with full payload from Mundra in early April.

Speaking on the launch of the new service, Adhendu Jain, CEO, DP World Subcontinent Rail and Inland Terminals, said, “Strong infrastructure and efficient logistics are critical for boosting economic growth and exports. We look forward to strengthening our supply chain and expanding our Committed to enabling seamless connectivity to help customers move their goods quickly and reliably across global and domestic markets.”

“The new double stacked rail freight service will substantially enhance cargo carrying capacity and open up new markets for MSMEs in and around Gujarat by leveraging DP World’s world class integrated multimodal logistics infrastructure,” he said.

Located approximately 40 km from Ahmedabad, DP World’s Ahmedabad domestic terminal is well connected to the state highway and rail network. The company said that it has a container handling capacity of over one lakh TEUs (twenty equipment units) per annum.

Offers terminal services, including warehousing, inventory management services, and specialized equipment for handling steel cargo.
