“We have a strong demand to manufacture 5,000 drones in the next 5 months. With the approvals received and the skills harnessed, we are certain that there will be significant growth in this sector,” said Agnishwar Jayaprakash, founder and CEO of Garuda Aerospace.

Drone maker Garuda Aerospace Pvt Ltd said it has received type certification from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) and Remote Pilot Training Organization (RPTO) approval for the indigenously designed Kisan drone.

“We have become the first drone start-up in India to get this approval,” said Agnishwar Jayaprakash, Founder and CEO. “The elusive dual certification by DGCA is a testament to our indigenous Made-in-India drone manufacturing capabilities.”

“We have a strong demand to manufacture 5,000 drones in the next 5 months. With the approvals being received and the skills harnessed, we are certain that there will be a significant growth in this sector,” he said.

“The DGCA Type Certification is granted on the basis of quality checks of drones and is issued after a rigorous testing process for Unmanned Area Vehicles (UAVs),” the company said in a statement.

Type certification was introduced by the central government in August 2021 under the Drone Rules.

Made-in-India Kisan drones have been developed for agricultural purposes such as reducing crop losses, monitoring crop health, measuring yield and reducing crop losses.

Priced at ₹4.50 lakh, the Garuda Kisan drone is an automated agriculture drone that has received DGCA-approved type certification in the sub-25 kg small category.

The company also envisages to train 1 lakh drone pilots in the next 2 years.
