Minister for Handlooms, Textiles, Sugarcane Development and Sugar Shankar Patil Munenenkoppa has said that it is planned to irrigate 10,000 hectares of agricultural land in Navalgund and Hubli taluks through Sri Yogeshwar Lift Irrigation Project.
He was speaking after launching the drone survey for the ambitious project to irrigate 10,000 hectares in Byahatti village in Hubli taluk on Saturday evening. The project aims to utilize 1.5 tmcft of water available in Tuppri Halla during the rainy season.
Mr Munenkoppa said that through the project it is planned to fill the Murram mines spread over 102 acres at Byahatti (40 acres), Thirlapur (34 acres) and Tali Morab (28 acres) and lift water to irrigate the field. He said that the available water would be used to irrigate the fields in Morab, Byahti, Sulla and Thirlapur villages.
The Minister said that the farmers of Navalgund Vidhan Sabha have been demanding a permanent solution to the floods in Tupari Halla and Beni Halla for the past several years and for this the Shree Yogeshwar Lift Irrigation Project has been prepared.
Tenders worth ₹150 crore have already been floated for the work.
As per the Paramshivaiya committee report, the running water will be stopped to collect in a public place and make it available to all. The survey work will be completed in a week and after that the work of filling the reservoirs will start. Apart from this, steps will also be taken to develop water bodies as tourist destinations.
He also performed Bhoomi Puja for the construction of Panchayat Library at Byahti. Various officials and elected representatives were present.
