Drones will soon be enabled with ‘on/off switch’ to enhance security: Scindia

Union Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia said drones will be enabled with automatic “on/off” switches in the coming days. According to the Union Minister, the automatic on/off switch will strengthen the safety aspects of drone operations if they deviate from the specified flight path.

In a virtual Q&A live chat session on the drone industry, Scindia said, “If there is a deviation from the specified flight path, the drone concerned can be stopped from the switch. He also said that there will be a registry for the drones.

He said there is a digital airspace map demarcated areas for drone operations into red, yellow and green zones. “Green zone” means airspace up to a vertical distance of 400 feet that is not designated as a red zone or yellow zone in airspace maps. According to the new Drone Rules, 2021, no flight will be required to be allowed up to 400 feet in the “Green Zone” and 200 feet in an area between 8 and 12 km from the periphery of the airport.

According to Scindia, about 200 startups are currently working in the drone sector. He said new air corridors would be set up for drones and there would be limited corridors for cargo delivery.

The government is aiming to make India a drone hub in the coming years.

In August, the ministry came out with new rules for drone operations. New regulations on drones mandate that these devices be registered. With the implementation of the new rules, civil Aviation The minister has reduced the number of forms to be filled from 25 to 5 to operate them and the types of charges to be charged from the operator from 72 to 4.

The rules also state that there will be no restrictions on drone operations by foreign-owned companies registered in India. No pilot license is required for micro drone (for non-commercial use) and nano drone, the rules have been mentioned, which states that the maximum penalty for violation has been reduced to 1 Lac. The government last month also approved a 120 Crore PLI Scheme for Drone Industry.
