Ducati to unveil production version of Scrambler DesertX in December 2021

Ducati has confirmed that it will reveal the production version of the Scrambler DesertX off-road motorcycle in December 2021. It was at EICMA 2019 that Ducati revealed the Scrambler DesertX as a concept motorcycle, but then confirmed that the motorcycle would make it into production. a year or so. Of course, the delay can be discounted due to the fact that the COVID-19 pandemic threw the proverbial spanner in the works and the best-laid plans went awry! But still, come December 2021 and Ducati will have a capable off-roader in its ranks, or so call it Ducati.

The DesertX motorcycle is said to be inspired by Ducati’s iconic motorcycles that competed in rally reds like the Paris-Dakar in the 1990s. Ducati says the retro-style scrambler is being developed for longer distances, and will be able to handle all kinds of tough terrain. Of course, it’s being billed as a true-blue off-roader.

When it comes to the design, the concept motorcycle stands out as having solid off-road credentials with its tall stance, a large windscreen and twin round LED headlights and muscular tank with clean, sharp lines. A major highlight of the concept bike was the two fuel tanks, which have a total capacity of 30 liters.

Production models may not have two fuel tanks. In terms of equipment, the motorcycle is likely to feature a 21-inch front wheel and an 18-inch rear wheel, both spoke, off-road biased Pirelli Scorpion rally tires and long travel suspension with some form of adjustability. The concept bike had a ground clearance of 275 mm and we expect the Scrambler DesertX to have similar ground clearance.

When it was unveiled in 2019, the Ducati Scrambler DesertX concept was powered by a 1,079 cc, L-twin engine that was tuned to churn out around 84 bhp and was mated to a 6-speed gearbox. We expect the updated Scrambler 1100 engine to power the production model.
