East Zone selectors have put a senior member in charge, aiming to win the Duleep Trophy.

The Eastern Zone Selection Committee selected its team for the upcoming Duleep Trophy on Thursday, 25 August. The meeting took place at the JSCA International Stadium Complex in Ranchi. Manoj Tiwary, the current West Bengal minister and cricketer, was appointed to lead the team, which will be followed by Virat Singh who will be his deputy in the upcoming tournament. The selectors have picked a strong team which includes Assam and IPL star Riyan Parag. This tournament is to be played in Tamil Nadu from 8 to 25 September.
A total of seven players have been selected from Cricket Association of Bengal, four from Jharkhand State Cricket Association, two from Assam Cricket Association and one each from Odisha Cricket Association and Tripura Cricket Association. Shahbaz Ahmed, nominated for India’s tour of Zimbabwe, has been selected for the East Zone squad.
The East Zone selectors said they are confident of the team doing well in the tournament and added that their main competition will be the Ajinkya Rahane-led West Zone. He further said that making Tiwary the captain was a shared decision.
“It is a joint decision. We need a senior player to lead the team. Manoj is a perfect man who can lead the team. Our main fight will be with West. Ajinkya Rahane is going to lead the team. We are looking forward to the tournament,” Subhamoy Das said.
