Mattress maker Duroflex India, which recently forayed into furniture, said it is set to double the production capacity.
“After being in the mattress business for more than five decades, we recently forayed into the furniture segment. Encouraged by the response, we are planning to set up a new unit in Indore to double the production capacity,” said Chief Managing Director Mathew Chandy.
“We are a zero-waste company. Almost all materials are reused, and some are sourced locally. When we had surplus [wastes] In the form of foam, fabric, cushion and wood, we decided that it will be used to make value-added products,” he said.
Mr Chandy said that Duroflex has one furniture manufacturing unit in Hosur and another is planned in Indore, where there is enough space to manufacture both furniture and mattresses.
According to him, around ₹20 crore has been invested in the Hosur facility which can produce 2,500 sofa sets in a month. An additional ₹20 crore will be invested in Indore to manufacture 2,500 sofa sets every month.
“It requires a good expertise to make furniture. We have foam, fabric and wood. We were confident that we can do full justice to it when we enter the furniture sector.
Sofas are offered under the Duroflex brand for professionals and sleepheads for young millennials.
Duroflex manufactures rosewood wood beds, fabric sofa sets and fabric recliners in Hosur and plans to widen its product range.
The company expects revenue of ₹100 crore after expansion in the first 12 months. The company aims to double its total business to Rs 2,000 crore by FY25.
