The official website of Mysore Dussehra-2021 was launched here on Friday. The website was unveiled by ST Somashekar, minister in-charge of Mysore and Chamarajanagar districts in the presence of MP Pratap Simha and others.
The website – https://mysoredasara.gov.in/ – can be accessed for details of the events and schedule of this year’s festival, among other information. The website is updated as and when required, with details of Nanjangud Dussehra events still awaited.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Somashekar said that Dussehra will go virtual like last year, as there is a restriction on the permission of large gatherings. He said that these programs will be broadcast live on the official website YouTube and Facebook.
This year the festivities will be a simple affair and cultural events will be confined to the palace unlike in the past, when such events were held at many places. The details of the inaugural, Jambu Savari, and cultural events along with the list of artists have been updated in the website.
The website has a gallery giving a glimpse of Mysore Dussehra along with some rare photographs from the past. The website also has an article on the history of ‘Nada Habba’ apart from details on tourism.
He said that all precautions would be taken for the safety of the people during the festival, with a focus on ensuring that the pandemic remains under control.
Earlier, the minister attended a breakfast organized for mahouts and kavadis of Dussehra elephants and forest workers in the palace premises. Mr. Somashekar served the food and appreciated the efforts of the staff in training the elephants for the big day.
Mr Somashekar, who later participated in an event to release posters of cultural events along with Kannada and Culture and Energy Minister V Sunil Kumar, also held a meeting to review the preparations made so far for the festival.
Light
Officials of Chamundeshwari Electricity Supply Corporation told in the meeting that 100 km long light would be illuminated this year with LED bulbs. 80 circles and traffic junctions across the city will be specially illuminated, apart from installing illuminated models of state’s eminent personalities and famous landmarks of the state including Vidhana Soudha and Krishnaraja Sagar. It was informed in the meeting that the lighting work would be completed in the next two days.
Mr. Somashekar said that Dussehra lights would be inaugurated on October 6 at 6 pm, Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai would visit the city and inspect the lights.
