Eating Packaged Foods Like Meat Can Cause Diabetes—This Study Reveals It All

Researchers looked at the dietary habits of 104,000 adults with a history of type 2 diabetes. It was found that individuals with diets high in nitrites were 53 percent more likely to develop type 2 diabetes.

It is noteworthy that processed meats such as ham and sausage were found to be the largest sources of nitrites from food additives, followed by ready-to-eat meals.

“Our findings suggest a direct association between nitrites derived from additives and T2D risk, and confirm a previously suggested association between total dietary nitrites and T2D risk,” said the study author.

2. Eat Whole Grains

Consuming whole grains instead of refined grains can play an important role in preventing diabetes. A Nurses Health study found that participants who consumed 2-3 servings of whole grains each day reduced their risk of developing diabetes by 30%.
