As part of the campaign “Team Up to Clean-Up. My City. My Coast. My Environment” being organized by G Square Group and Hindu, A beach clean-up drive was carried out in Kovalam along the East Coast Road on Sunday.
The volunteers picked up plastic bottles, polythene bags, pieces of glass and shoes. Most of the garbage collected was plastic, which is a major contributing factor to marine pollution.
Actor and model Ganesh Venkataram, who inaugurated the event, reiterated that it is the responsibility of every citizen to keep the beaches clean and green. He said that every person should become a soldier of the environment. He joined a team of over 100 volunteers in cleaning and collecting the garbage.
Environmentalist Foundation of India is the knowledge partner for the campaign.
