Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde said this on Sunday Election The commission’s decision to allot the “bow and arrow” election symbol to its faction of the Shiv Sena was a victory for truth.
Addressing the Shivaji Jayanti celebrations in Uttar Pradesh’s Agra on Sunday evening, he said his faction got the symbol of “bow and arrow” because of the blessings of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj.
In a democracy, majority weighs and truth prevails, he said on the Election Commission’s decision.
The Election Commission on Friday recognized the Shinde-led faction as the original Shiv Sena and ordered it to be allotted the “bow and arrow” election symbol, dealing a major blow to the rival camp led by former chief minister Uddhav Thackeray, whose father Bal Thackeray founded the organization in 1966.
Shinde was in Agra to attend the 393rd birth anniversary celebrations of 17th century Maratha ruler Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj at Diwan-e-Aam in Agra Fort.
It was organized by Ajinkya Devagiri Pratishthan, a social and cultural organisation, in collaboration with the cultural department of Maharashtra.
He thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath for allowing the ceremony at Agra Fort.
Talking to reporters, Shinde said, “It was a historic day for the followers of Shivaji Maharaj to celebrate his birth anniversary at Agra Fort. In the Diwan-e-Aam, Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj used strong words against the Mughal emperor Aurangzeb and managed to return to Maharashtra.” Union ministers Raosaheb Patil Danve and SP Singh Baghel attended the ceremony.
