ED summons Karnataka unit chief Shivakumar; Attempts to stop Bharat Jodi Yatra: Congress

Congress general secretary in-charge of Karnataka affairs Randeep Surjewala said the ED has been summoned as the ruling government is scared of people’s support for the yatra.

The Congress on Thursday said it would not be intimidated by the Enforcement Directorate summons issued to party’s Karnataka unit chief DK Shivakumar and his brother DK Suresh, alleging that it was being done to stop the Bharat Jodi Yatra. .

Shivakumar said the BJP was scared of the yatra and was trying to stop it by misusing the central agencies. The Karnataka Congress chief said he would go to Delhi to appear before the probe agency after summoning him and his brother in the National Herald money laundering case. Shivakumar said that he would leave for Delhi only on Thursday. He had earlier said that the ED has rejected his plea for exemption from appearing before the agency in Delhi on Friday.

“There is madness in the BJP’s modus operandi. They are scared… they are seeing the defeat written on the wall in Karnataka. “They can summon Mr. DK Shivakumar, Mr. DK Suresh 500 times. They are only trying to disrupt our journey. “We are not scared. We will give them a befitting reply in the people’s court.”

Surjewala said the Congress “rejects such malicious, vicious attempts, the BJP is doing only because they fear overwhelming support to the yatra” joined in. 75-year-old Sonia Gandhi walks with her son amid loud cheers and sloganeering by party workers Rahul Gandhi and other senior leaders, for a few kilometers in Mandya district of the state. Top party leaders led by former Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and state unit chief DK Shivakumar were also part of the convoy accompanying the Gandhi family.
