Efforts are on to increase the number of airports, heliports: Aviation Minister

Domestic passengers increased from 60 million in 2014 to 144 million in 2019

New Delhi:

Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia on Thursday said the government has a “comprehensive game plan” and three-pronged strategy for the country’s fast-growing aviation market.

Referring to the potential of the aviation market, he said that the number of domestic passengers increased from 60 million in 2014 to 144 million in 2019, at a CAGR (Compound Annual Growth Rate) of about 14.5 per cent.

He was speaking here at the curtain raiser event for ‘Wing India 2024’ conference to be held in Hyderabad next year.

According to the minister, under the three-pronged strategy, the focus is to build capacity, ensure there are no bottlenecks for aviation industry players and simplify processes and procedures.

He said that efforts are being made to increase the number of airports, heliports and waterdromes from 148 at present to more than 200 in the next three to four years.

Civil Aviation Secretary Rajiv Bansal said that there is a lot of potential for increasing international air connectivity for India.
