Eid-ul-Fitr in Saudi Arabia 2025: As Ramadan enters its last week, Muslims around the world have eagerly estimated a joyous celebration that marks the end of one month of fasting from morning to evening.

This year, Ramadan in India, one of the holiest months in Islam, began on Sunday, March 2, after watching New Crescent Moon on Saturday, March 1. In Saudi Arabia, Ramadan began a day earlier on 1 March.

Since Ramadan began on March 2 in India, Eid-ul-Fitr is expected to be celebrated on 31 March or 1 April, based on Crescent Moon, which marks the beginning of the Islamic month of Shawl.

The exact date of Eid-ul-Fitr is confirmed only after seeing the moon:

  • If the Crescent Moon is seen after Maghrib (evening) prayer on 30 March, Eid will fall on 31 March.
  • If the moon is not seen on 30 March, Eid will be seen on 1 April.

In Saudi Arabia, the same process applies:

  • If the moon is seen on 29 March, Eid will be on 30 March.
  • If not, Eid will be on 31 March.

Why is the moon important for Eid?

The Islamic calendar follows the lunar cycle, and the beginning of any Hijri month is determined by the presence of Crescent Moon. The Eid-ul-Fitr falls on the first day of Shawwal, the tenth month of the Islamic calendar. Since the lunar months are either 29 or 30 days long, the exact date of Eid varies each year by religious authorities on the basis of philosophy of the moon.

Importance of Eid-ulte-Fitr

Eid-ul-Fitr, which means “the festival of breaking the fast, is a symbol of the end of Ramadan, a month of fasting, prayer and reflection. It is one of the five pillars of Islam and is observed as the time of gratitude, charity and community ceremonies.

About 70 days after Eid-ul-Fitr, Muslims inspect Eid-ul-Adea, also known as the “feast of sacrifice”, which marks the conclusion of the annual pilgrimage Haj for Mecca.
