Eight people were killed and 24 others were injured in a collision between a private bus and a truck near Hubli on the Hubli-Dharwad Bypass (NH4) road on the intervening night of May 23.
Police Commissioner Labhu Ram said that the accident happened on the bypass road near Revdihal around midnight on Monday. The injured have been admitted to KIMS Hospital in Hubli.
Six people died on the spot, while two succumbed to their injuries in the hospital. The dead included two drivers of the long-distance bus and the driver of the truck.
The private bus was going from Kolhapur in Maharashtra to Bengaluru and the truck was coming in the opposite direction.
According to preliminary information, the driver of the bus, while trying to overtake the tractor, allegedly lost control and rammed the truck.
Some passengers, who did not suffer serious injuries, are being taken to Kolhapur in an ambulance. Most of the passengers in the bus are from Maharashtra.
