Former Twitter CEO Elon Musk has announced that the microblogging platform will get Picture-in-Picture (PiP) mode next week. The tech billionaire was responding to a user’s tweet, which requested the addition of a ’15 second forward and back seek button’ while watching videos. Twitter,
“Coming next week, with a picture in a picture so you can see as you scroll,” Musk Said.
For those unaware, PiP mode allows users to watch videos in a small window pinned to a corner of the screen without leaving the current webpage. This feature is already available for major apps like YouTube, WhatsApp.
Responding to Musk’s tweet, many users praised the upcoming feature.
“Thanks. Actually this feature is what I want too and thought was lacking,” replied one user.
“This would be a welcome feature for multitasking on Twitter. ❤️ that this capability is already available with Spaces,” said one user.
“Awesome! Picture-in-Picture allows video monetization without actually embedding ads in the video because it lets users see ads while scrolling Twitter!” wrote another.
While some took the opportunity to mention the features they would like Twitter to introduce.
One user said, “Please add the ability to play videos in thumbnails while watching other apps, a la YouTube.”
Another user wrote “Add listen-only mode when the screen is off. Best for podcasts. Speed control next.”
“Please make it so that when opening Twitter on iOS it does not mute/pause whatever was going on in other apps. It keeps pausing my music/videos/podcasts and it’s very annoying. It didn’t do that,” wrote one user.
Recently, Twitter announced a new feature whereby Blue Verified subscribers can now upload videos of up to 2 hours, ie 8GB. The new development comes after the billionaire revealed his plans to bring new features to the platform, including adding calls and encrypted messaging.
