Employee sues PwC who lost his half skull during office party

Auditing firm PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) has been sued by its employee for a serious head injury during a job. Michael Brockey, an employee who sued PwC, said the company failed to ensure their safety by allowing excessive drinking for many years at work events. Brockey filed a personal injury claim for alleged negligence by PwC, suffered a brain injury and was put into an induced coma in early 2019.

Brockey said in a court filing that there was “very heavy pressure” by his manager to attend an event organized to celebrate the end of a “busy season”.

According to Bloomberg news agency, the company organized a game called “pub golf” in which employees were expected to consume a different alcoholic beverage at each of the nine bars, or as much as the “hole” on the “course”. In as little mouthful as possible. , The lawsuit claims that workers who used the fewest swigs to consume their drinks were given the best scores, which were recorded on cards that were printed and distributed at the office.

His lawyer said Brockie was so intoxicated that he had no recollection of the events after 10 p.m., but was later found lying in a street in a town west of London.

“The phenomenon not only encourages but creates a competing quality of excessive, fast and prolonged alcohol consumption for several hours beyond 6 p.m.,” the lawsuit states.

According to court documents, 28-year-old Brocky was able to return to work full time in seven months after suffering an injury and fearing he might have an epileptic seizure. Doctors described Brockie as a “walking miracle” after he recovered. Brocky had half of his skull removed and is now seeking at least £200,000 ( 1.88 crore) from PwC.

In a statement provided to Bloomberg news agency, PwC wrote, “As a responsible employer we are committed to providing a safe, healthy and inclusive culture for all of our people. We also expect that social events are Anyone involved must be responsible for their own safety and that of others”.

PwC called off the annual outing after Brocchi’s injury.
