Encroached temple land recovered in Pudukottai villages

Officials of the Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments Department in the district on Wednesday recovered land encroached upon by some persons in Aranthangi and Avadaiarkoil taluks.

A press release said that 84.65 acres of land was retrieved from encroachers in Thalanur revenue village of Avadaiyarkoil taluk. The land belongs to Bhavaneeswarar Temple and Sundarja Perumal Temple in Ponpathy village of the same taluk.

In another instance, officials recovered 95.81 acres of encroached land in Melmangalam revenue village of Aranthangi taluk. The land belongs to Viswanathanaswamy temple in Idayanakottai village.

The encroachers came forward and handed over the land to the authorities and after warning of legal action, gave an undertaking to this effect. The total value of the seized land is around Rs 28 crore.
