BENGALURU: End user spending on public cloud services in India is projected to total $7.3 billion in 2022, a 29.6% year-on-year growth, according to a recent forecast by Gartner, Inc.
“The adoption of public cloud services has accelerated since the start of the global pandemic. The pandemic was a turning point for Indian businesses to realize the true value of the public cloud,” said Sid Nag, research vice president at Gartner. “In India, policy infrastructure is emerging as a significant contributor to public cloud development.”
The recently launched public cloud government initiatives Meghraj and Cloud Vision for India 2022 will prove useful for small and medium businesses or those in the early stages of cloud adoption to benefit from this technology, Nag said.
Additionally, initiatives targeted at building skilled cloud workforce in partnership with private IT service providers will contribute to the government’s efforts to strengthen the public cloud ecosystem in the country.
While still growing, Indian end-user spending on the public cloud next year will be slower than the 34.6% growth forecast in 2021. Indian CIOs are expected to focus their cloud investments on Cloud Systems Infrastructure Services (IaaS). This segment is projected to total $2.4 billion in 2022, a 40% increase over 2021. IaaS will make up 32.3% of total investment in public cloud services in 2022.
