New Zealand pacer Kyle Jamieson has been ruled out of the ongoing Test series against England after an MRI scan revealed a stress-reaction in his lower back.

Jonny Bairstow’s 136 from 92 on the fifth day of the match at Trent Bridge helped England wrap up the series with a memorable win in the second Test.

Jamieson suffered an injury while bowling on the third day of the second Test. New Zealand coach Gary Stead said he would need four to six weeks of rest before starting a rehabilitation program targeting a possible return to play in September or October.

“Kyle played such a big role in the first Test at Lord’s and I know how disappointed he was to be included in the second Test,” Stead said.

“He is clearly a huge asset to us and we will make sure we are patient with his recovery to make sure he is fully fit with the much more important cricket coming up later this year “

Blair Tickner, who was with the Test team in England for the opening tour matches, has been included in the squad as Jamieson’s replacement and will arrive in the UK ahead of the third Test in Leeds next week.

Tickner’s home teammate Dane Cleaver has received a Test call-up for the first time since replacing wicketkeeper Cam Fletcher, who has been ruled out of the tour with a grade-two right-hamstring strain. Fletcher was injured while fielding on the fourth day of the second Test and will take six to eight weeks to recover.

The third Test between England and New Zealand will start in Leeds from 23 June.
