The second day of the England vs South Africa final match at The Oval has been abandoned for Friday after the country went into national mourning following the death of England’s longest-reigning Queen Elizabeth II.
The England Cricket Board reported the developments with a press release stating that all cricketing activities had been called off for Friday.
“Following the death of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, Friday’s game between the men of England and South Africa at the Oval, as well as the Rachel Hayhoe Flint Trophy, will not take place at all scheduled matches,” the note said.
On Thursday, the first day of the match was called off due to rain without a single ball being played.
“The England and Wales Cricket Board is deeply saddened by the death of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. The Queen and her late husband HRH Prince Philip, The Duke of Edinburgh, both have a long history of supporting the cricket and national sides of England,” Read the ECB press release.
