LAHORE: England will play two additional T20 Internationals out of the originally planned five on the tour of Pakistan next year, its cricket board’s chief executive said. Tom Harrison announced here on Tuesday after meeting with PCB President Ramiz Raja,
England will play T20 Internationals in September/October next year. He will then return to Pakistan on the back of the T20 World Cup in Australia in November/December to play three Tests, which will be part of the ICC World Test Championship.
“This is only to reaffirm our commitment to Pakistan cricket by having England teams, men’s and women’s teams play in Pakistan,” Harrison said in a Pakistan Cricket Board release.
“I don’t think there’s a cricketer in England who doesn’t want to test their abilities against the vast talent of this country and the conditions they know best.”
Harrison had gone to Pakistan to meet with Ramiz to mend ties that had been damaged by the cancellation of last month’s tour.
England’s men’s team was to tour Pakistan in October for the first time since 2005, while their women’s have never played in that country.
However, ECB Both series were cancelled, citing the players’ “mental and physical well-being” and safety concerns, a decision that was heavily criticized.
“Me and ECB Senior Director Martin Darlow visited Lahore to talk one-on-one with the PCB about some of the things that happened in the last few weeks, which led to the cancellation of our tour in October,” Harrison said.
“We also wanted to discuss the future because the two boards have a historical relationship and want the agenda to be forward-looking rather than forward-looking.”
Harrison said he discussed with PCB officials some interesting ideas around pathway engagement, proposals to support the women’s game and the domestic agenda in Pakistan.
“We are going to pursue these plans together and we are excited about that as well.”
Raja said the PCB is excited that England are committed to playing two additional T20Is next year as part of their white-ball tour.
“The ECB has shown a lot of enthusiasm to be here for which I am thankful to Tom and Martin. It means a lot to us. We put in a lot of effort to make sure that all the visiting teams are comfortable in Pakistan. ”
“It is a matter of pride for Pakistan fans, who look forward to welcoming Australia and England in 2022. England have got a great team and it is amazing that they have won so many match winners in a span of almost five to seven. How are they made? Years. They play very attractive and engaging cricket, which is great for fans and is a great advertisement for the game.”
Harrison’s decision to visit Pakistan comes after Cricket Australia announced that he would tour Pakistan early next year.
Australia’s confirmation of sending their team to Pakistan was also announced by the West Indies Board that it would tour Pakistan in December for a white-ball series.
