LONDON: The World Health Organization said last week there was a 7% increase in new coronavirus cases across Europe, the only region in the world where cases rose.
In its weekly assessment of the pandemic released late on Tuesday, the United Nations health agency said there were nearly 2.7 million new Covid-19 cases and more than 46,000 deaths last week, similar to the numbers reported last week. Britain, Russia And Turkey has the most cases.

The number of deaths in Africa has also dropped by almost a quarter, despite a severe shortage of vaccines on the continent. In Russia, authorities have struggled to vaccinate its population and despite the availability of its Sputnik V vaccine, only about 32% of people have been vaccinated. It is the biggest death toll in Europe so far, with more than 225,000 deaths.
