Even if a player fails to play the prescribed role, we will give him confidence: Rohit Sharma Cricket News – Times of India

Jaipur: India’s new T20 captain Rohit Sharma On Tuesday, instilling a sense of security in players would be his priority and he would not stop holding their hands even after failing a few games while trying to play a specific role for the team.
Ahead of his first full-time assignment as India’s captain against New Zealand, Rohit underlined the need for him to coach Rahul Dravid To play a “big role” in allowing people to play fearless cricket and instilling confidence in them even if they do not get the desired results.

Rohit said, “I think this is an important aspect of the format (T20) where people have the assurance of going in and taking chances in the middle. If it comes, it’s off, if it doesn’t. If it happens, what happens?” Said when PTI asked how he would like to strike a balance between safety and flexibility while trying out combinations going into the next t20 world cup In 11 months’ time.
The captain was clear on how he and the new coach would go about their work.
Rohit’s eye will be on how players respond to different pressure situations and how well they are able to express themselves while understanding the pitfalls of taking risks.

“Specifically, in this format where at times, you need to go out there and play fearlessly, there are chances that you may not always succeed. Because it is such a short format, you are always going to be challenged. And the pressure is always there.”
For Rohit, it is important that one knows what the team needs from him and does not deviate from the set game-plan.
“I think the whole set-up will play a big part in making sure that wherever that particular guy bats and how we want him to bat, he goes and works for us.”
So what happens when a player fails?

“If he doesn’t, you still try and instill confidence in him that we have full faith in you and just go and play the role for the team. As long as they are trying to play the role for the team We are happy,” the captain played with a straight bat.
No matter what role you play in IPL
Rohit said players are “not machines” and will need rest to rejuvenate, but at the same time, when they enter the Indian dressing room, it doesn’t matter if they are in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. What role do they play for their state team or their respective IPL franchises.
He said, “We just need to fix the blueprint and we’ve got some time to do that. India have been fantastic in this particular format and it’s true that we haven’t won an ICC tournament, we are good as a team.” Play, do well.” ,
Rohit explained, “Obviously there are some gaps that we need to fill and that will definitely be the biggest challenge as a team. Every opposition team has holes and the more you try and maximize.”
India’s template will not be a photocopy of other teams and will be their own customized template.
“I am not going to say that we are going to follow a certain team blueprint, we just have to create our own blueprint and do what is best for our team, and what is right for our team.
“Our boys play SMAT and IPL and they play differently for their franchises, they play differently for SMAT and when they come here, they play differently, we are strictly entrusting that role. Want to do what they do here. It might take a few games or so. It might take some time.”
Rohit talked about giving long ropes to the players.
“For us, it is important to give them the long rope and the confidence to give them that confidence. We are starting afresh after the T20 World Cup and we have put some thoughts and ideas for this particular tournament so far. Let’s see. That’s how it happens and we’ll take it from there.”
It is about grooming all the youth, not just Venkatesh.
The captain understands the value that seam bowling has like an all-rounder Venkatesh Iyer Teams can add up but Team India is not just about trying to find a slot for a player with a particular skill set.
“I think it’s important to prepare everyone. I understand the importance of bowling all-rounders but you know focusing on one spot is not the way forward,” he added.
“You have to look at the whole set-up, the team we have and how we can fit in the players and how we can be effective as a team and what is read and whatever works for us We will keep an eye on them.”
“It’s not just about one or two individuals and tracking them. It’s about the whole unit and set-up we have. Even those who are playing the Mushtaq Ali T20, All those people too.
“It is important to have an equal eye on everyone and we will try and do whatever is required to be a successful team in this particular format,” he concluded.
