With the BJP releasing its first list of candidates for 189 of the 224 seats for the upcoming Karnataka Assembly elections, the party fielded former Bengaluru police commissioner Bhaskar Rao from the Chamarajpet constituency.
A day before filing his nomination for the Karnataka Assembly elections, the former Bengaluru police commissioner today offered prayers at the city’s Sree Dodda Ganapathy temple.
The process of filing nominations for the state assembly elections will begin tomorrow.
“There is a need to bring a change in people’s lives. I will go door-to-door urging people to vote as the voting percentage is low in urban centres. During my tenure as Commissioner of Police, I have ensured that my force works for the people as per the Constitution. Protected,” Mr Rao told ANI after visiting the temple.
Meanwhile, supporters of BJP MLA from Belagavi North Anil Benake staged a protest last evening after he was denied ticket in the upcoming Karnataka assembly elections.
Supporters of BJP MLA Mahadevappa Yadav staged a protest in Belagavi’s Ramdurg constituency over denial of ticket to him. Chikka Revana, who recently joined BJP, has got ticket from this constituency.
The BJP on Tuesday released the first list of candidates for 189 out of 224 seats for the upcoming elections, in which 52 new candidates have got tickets.
Addressing the press conference, BJP national general secretary Arun Singh said, “Tickets have been given to 52 new faces, eight women, nine doctors, five lawyers, one retired IPS officer, three retired government employees and eight social workers.”
He said that BY Vijayendra, son of former Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yeddyurappa, has been given the ticket.
According to BJP sources, former Karnataka Chief Minister Jagadish Shettar has started showing rebellious attitude and has been called to Delhi.

Karnataka assembly elections will be held on May 10, counting of votes will take place on May 13.
