While many people have adopted meditation as a daily routine, some people find it difficult and unpleasant as it requires complete and sustained effort and time for discipline. In addition, beginners often make mistakes such as trouble concentrating, being unable to control thoughts during meditation, experimenting repeatedly with different techniques and trying to get immediate results.
Dhruv Patel and Dr. Batul Patel, (Founders of Ruhgoo) spoke to Hindustan Times about common meditation mistakes and how to avoid them.
right way to meditate
A basic thought disturbs our mind i.e. are we meditating properly? Dhruv Patel and Dr. Batul Patel said, “There is no right or wrong way to meditate, sometimes without even trying to meditate you will already be meditating, especially when you are in the flow of doing something like this. Be someone you love. So, the last thing you want to do is set expectations from your meditation session, there’s no right way to do it, just make a conscious effort and let the meditation come to you naturally.”
How to control thoughts during meditation:
According to Dhruv Patel and Dr. Batul Patel, controlling thoughts is a very “common misconception” that needs to be corrected. “The idea is not to engage in your thoughts but to be a silent observer. This will gradually reduce the intensity of your thoughts and clear your mind,” he said.
