The Andhra Pradesh State Disaster Response and Fire Services Department has launched a refresher training program with two-day sessions in physical fitness and swimming for its 150 staff members in Anantapur district.

The two-day course involving 35 personnel from Anantapur station was trained by swimming expert Waheed in some special techniques in swimming at Pandameru stream near Raptadu. District Fire Officer V. Srinivas Reddy told Hindu That all 150 personnel from six fire stations in the district will be trained in these new techniques to navigate the water while carrying out rescue operations.

“Staying fit is the mantra for effective work on the ground, so some improvised techniques were explained to the personnel in the large office complex opposite the Government General Hospital using some available lorry tires and other equipment to improve the stamina of the people,” he explained. . The two-day course that concluded on Wednesday has provided some insights as to how personnel should remain agile even when they are not working and also with the monsoon season approaching, fire officers/staff of the fire department are prepared for any eventuality.
