Explained: India’s EV Super App! Location, availability of charging stations and more – Times of India

To accelerate the transition from internal combustion vehicles to EVs and reduce range anxiety EV For users, the Government of India is working on introducing a master app that will serve as a one-stop solution for location information as well as availability of vehicle charging stations.
State-run Convergence Energy Services Limited (CESL) is in the process of collecting information from the private sector for the Super app, which is to be made available to users in the next 4-6 weeks. The app will provide availability, charger type, charging tariff, while allowing users to make and change reservations at nearby charging stations.
“In addition to information on the network of public charging stations, the app will reflect information shared by OEMs, thereby increasing visibility and traffic at private charging points. Speaking to ET, CESL Managing Director Mahua Acharya said that consumers will get peace of mind knowing that they can easily access information and make reservations at nearby stations.
“We need an extensive network of charging stations at strategic locations that are safe, well lit, well covered and where users can top-up. electric vehicles Within an hour,” said Acharya. According to him, this can help reduce the size of batteries in electric vehicles, thus making them more affordable and accessible. It will also reduce range anxiety and accelerate the adoption of electric vehicles.
CESL has accordingly designed a service procurement model to involve the private sector for setting up the charging ecosystem. CESL will partner with companies that will invest in and operate these stations on expressways and highways, which will enable owners to take their EVs for longer inter-state journeys. CESL plans to set up 10,000 charging stations over the next three years under the FAME II initiative.
Charging infrastructure is one of the key imperatives for EV adoption. Rajeev K Vij said, “It is important that all charging stations are in fully functional condition at all times and are also easy to locate so that EV owners can actually reach the locations where they are easily installed and charge their vehicles. can use them to do that.” Founder, Plug Mobility.
