Namdapha was established as a National Park in 1983 and has been designated as a Tiger Reserve.

The fourth largest national park in India, Namdapha houses over 1400 different species of animal and plant life. Undeniably a hotspot for biodiversity, Namdapha National Park is home to the Hoolock gibbon, the only ape species present in India.

Namdapha is ideal for camping enthusiasts as it is the only national park in the country that allows camping within the forest. This park is highly sought after by bird lovers from all over the world. The fact that a large part of it is inaccessible has contributed to maintaining the immaculate condition of Namdafa in its natural state.

To prevent encroachment, a major source of concern, the authorities of Namdapha National Park have recently strengthened monitoring systems.
