The new year brought cold wave to various states across India, leading to extension of winter break in many schools in Patna, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh

Waking up early in the winter mornings can be really challenging for school students. But there is a respite for all the students as many states are extending winter vacations as chilly mornings and cold wave are being witnessed across the country.

These include northern states including Uttar Pradesh, Punjab and Haryana. Latest updates on winter vacation extension can be found here.

Uttar Pradesh

The District Magistrate (DM) has issued an order on Sunday to extend the holidays of students of classes 1 to 12 of classes 1 to 12 of all recognized schools in Sitapur, Uttar Pradesh in view of severe cold and extreme fog. This step has been taken keeping in mind the interests and health of the student. Meanwhile, the Gorakhpur DM directed to keep government and other recognized schools from LKG to class 8 closed for two days on January 2 and January 3 in view of the cold on Sunday.

Punjab

The Punjab government has extended the winter vacation in all government, private and aided schools till January 8 due to extreme cold conditions. school education Minister Harjot Singh Bains said that all schools in the state will not open on January 2 as announced earlier. According to media reports, the schools will now open on January 9. Earlier there was winter vacation from 25th December to 1st January.

Haryana

In Haryana too, winter vacation in all schools has been extended up to Class VIII. Now the schools will reopen on January 9.

Apart from these three states, winter vacation has already been announced in states like Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Delhi, Bihar and Chhattisgarh. The Met department has predicted dense to very dense fog in these northern states during the next five days.
