Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar and his visiting German counterpart Annalena Bierbock held wide-ranging talks on December 5 focusing on ways to enhance bilateral cooperation, especially in the areas of energy, trade and climate change.

In a statement, Ms. Bierbock described India as Germany’s “natural partner” and said the country would have a decisive influence in shaping the international order in the 21st century.

“The Government of India has set ambitious goals not only in the G20 but also domestically for its people. When it comes to expanding renewable energy, India wants to get ahead with the energy transition more than ever. Germany stands with India.

“Because the dramatic effects of the climate crisis affect us all, destroying livelihoods in Europe as well as in India. We want to strengthen our economic, climate and security policy cooperation with India beyond our strategic partnership Yes, it is not an empty word.

officials said bilateral cooperation The main focus of the agenda of the talks between the two foreign ministers was in the areas of energy, trade and climate change.

On December 3, a German statement said that India’s relations with China and the outcome of the Russian invasion of Ukraine have been decided in talks between Mr. Jaishankar and Ms. Bierbock.

It added, “In Barbock’s talks with his Indian counterpart, Subrahmanyam Jaishankar, Russia’s war against Ukraine and its consequences are likely to figure in addition to India’s ties with China, for example in the energy sector.”

Relations between India and Germany have deepened in the last few years.

Ways to expand bilateral economic engagement and defense cooperation figured prominently in the meeting between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chancellor Olaf Scholz on the sidelines of the G-20 summit in Bali last month.

In May, Mr Modi visited Berlin for the 6th Indo-German Inter-Governmental Consultations (IGC). This was followed by a visit to Schloss Elmau in Germany for the G7 summit at the invitation of Chancellor Scholz.
