McLaren was always going to be one of those teams with some bold inventions on the cards for the 2022 season – and it has delivered. The MCL26, its challenger for the 2022 world title, has developed over the past three impressive seasons where it has been P4 twice and P3 once in the constructors’ championship. It is also the first fully developed car in the eyes of its technical director James Key and is striking.
The MCL36 represents a bold interpretation of the ground effect aerodynamic rules the FIA has set for a new era of Formula 1 that enables better overtaking. It became the first of four cars to have a pull rod suspension at the front and a pushrod design at the rear. There are also really aggressively packed side pods in complete contrast to what Aston Martin has unveiled, given that both teams will be running the same new Mercedes power plant.

The car was launched at the Woking factory in the presence of Lando Norris, who recently renewed his contract until the end of 2025, as well as Daniel Ricciardo who is set to stay until the end of 2023. Of course, team principal Andreas Seidl and McLaren Racing CEO Jacques Brown were also present.
There’s also a new outfit that takes a page from the once-special Monaco GP outfit with Gulf oil, mixing shades of blue with more black at McLaren’s papaya. McLaren also showcased its 2022 Indy Car vehicle as well as launched its Xtreme E car.
“I am delighted to see the launch of all three McLaren racing events in Formula 1, IndyCar and the Extreme E Championship today. This is a first for us as a team and in the wider world of motorsport, and it has been wonderful to see.” How excited are fans to be ready to join us on the next part of our journey,” said CEO Zack Brown.
“Our Formula 1 team is making great progress year after year with Andreas Seidli [team principal] over the top, and this new era of rules represents a real opportunity for the team. I am excited to see Lando and Daniel get behind the wheel of the MCL36 and take it to the competition this year. Lando made great strides in 2021 scoring four podiums, and Daniele’s sensational win at Monza reminded the team how it feels to win again. As we move into 2022, we want to build on that progress and close the gap for the teams ahead,” said team principal Andreas Seidl.

Its technical director James Key was excited about this fact and said, “It can be proud to present a real car because it absolutely is. This is the car we’re taking to Barcelona. Yes, we’ve got some bits for it And the pieces are hidden for obvious reasons, there are some sensitive areas, but all this will be seen when we are driving the car.”
