Jahan Daruwalla takes first win of the season and second win of his F2 career
India’s Jahan Daruwalla secured his first win of the season with a brilliant run in the sprint race of the Italian Grand Prix at Monza. Carlin Driver crossed the checkered flag with a lead of 6.1 seconds, followed by Bent Wiskal’s best finish ever in F2. Meanwhile, Prema’s driver Robert Schwartzman finished last on the podium.
Daruwalla qualified in the front row and started in pole position with David Beckmann in second place on the grid. A strong start allowed the Indian driver to take the lead on the first corner, while Juri Wips of Viskal and Hitech traded for third.
An incident behind resulted in a virtual safety car situation after lap 3. The race started a few laps later and Jahan kept his head down and drove cleanly without any fault. In the first few laps, Beckman was within DRS range, but Jahan managed to maintain his lead by a second. Once Beckman was out of the DRS range, Jahan continued to increase his lead every lap.
Three laps before the finish, Jahan had already comfortably opened the gap of 5s. Beckmann fell under the pressure to move to third place while Wiskal went into P2. Schwartzman will overtake Beckman for P3.
