Facebook on Thursday launched its largest-ever Creator Education and Enablement program in India to provide content creators on its platform and Instagram the opportunity to learn, earn and grow their communities. Speaking at the 2021 edition of ‘Creators Day India’, Instagram Head Adam Mosseri said that India is one of the fastest growing markets for photo sharing and short video platforms.
“India is one of the fastest growing countries in the whole world, it is becoming one of the most important places for us on Instagram… on Instagram right now,” he said. Facebook Ajit Mohan, Vice President and Managing Director of India said that the last one year has witnessed an explosion of talent and creativity across platforms across India.
“We want to invest in and support this ecosystem, and be the best place for creators to grow and make a living. We plan to do this by developing a range of creative tools that democratize expression …the reel is a great example of how creativity has been democratised.” He explained that people in the country’s smallest cities and towns are using Reels – the Instagram short video feature – and are being discovered nationally and increasingly globally. Today, on average, more than 6 million answer are produced in India every day, Mohan said. He added that the social media platform is offering monetization tools “that can help creators monetize through content”.
“We know that learning is an important stage in the journey of the creator and in an effort to make education more scalable and even more democratic than ever before, we are launching one of the largest maker learning programs.
This is the next phase of ‘Born on Instagram’ and will give creators across India an opportunity to learn through a self-paced online learning course.” Mohan added that the program will provide live master classes with experts, the latest trends, Information about product updates and challenges to help creators stay abreast of what’s happening on Instagram. At the end of the course, participants will also receive a course completion letter. The program ‘Born on Instagram’ was launched. in 2019. Facebook-owned Instagram is now rapidly launching many of its features in India. Last year, it launched its new format ‘Reels’ which allows users to create and share short videos and India was one of the first countries where the company launched a separate tab for ‘Reels’ And India was the first country to get this facility.
India was also among the first two countries where Instagram launched Live Rooms – a feature where up to four people can go live simultaneously. In July this year, Instagram said it was testing a new ‘Collab’ feature in India and the UK that would allow users to post feeds and collaborate with others on Reel.
